India vs South Africa - Highlights of 2nd test 2010

India has won the 2nd test against South Africa at Kolkata by an inning. This makes the 2-match series draw with 1-1. With this win, India has won the ICC test championship 2010 being no.1 test team. Hasim Amla was brilliant for Sri Lanka with centuries in both inning but finally match went to India.



Day 1: India got the first wicket in 3rd over but two batsmen Petersen and Hasim Amla batted beautifully thereafter. Petersen got a hundred on debut while Amla made another century in the series. Apart from 1 wicket 1st session belonged to South Africa and they lost another one in the second session. Then came the jubilant 3rd session where Indian bowlers took wickets continuously. South Africa at one stage 218/1 soon became 261/9 at the end of day 1. Zaheer took 3 and 3 belonged to Harbajan. Mishra and Ishant Sharma got 1 wickets each. The match reminded the first test where Dale Steyn had swept the Indian middle order and the tailenders.

Day 2: Day to went to the Sehwag and Tendulkar. First South Africa got all out on 296. India got a flying start with Sehwag raining fours. A bit of misunderstanding and Gambhir was run out making 73/1, Murali Vijay followed soon. Then, came the partnership of aggressive Sehwag and steady Tendulkar both of whom got to a superb century. Sehwag made 165 off 175 balls and Tendulkar got out on 106. As in first day, third session was in the name of bowlers. Three batsmen- Tendulkar, Sehwag and Badrinath lost their wicket.


Day 3: Day 3 completely belonged to India. Only wicket which fell was of Amit Mishra- the night watchman of previous day who too became a headache for South Africa. Dhoni and Laxman batted very beautifully and got to their centuries. India made 643/6 and declared the innings with a lead of about 350. South Africa came to bat but bad light stopped the play on 0.5 overs with SA on 6/0.

  1. it came as a shock to me when i heard that india had taken 9 wickets at the end of the 1st day of the 2nd test at kolkata.. bajji and zaheer did a wonderful job in restricting the south africans to a low 261. especially considering that the score was 216 for the loss of only 1 wicket... i hope that the indians will continue to play well and win this test match and retain their position as the no 1 test playing nation...
