India Vs New Zealand 1st test - day 1, 2009 - Highlights

New Zealand 1st Innings - 279 all out in 79.2 overs
India 1st innings - 29/0 in 7 overs.

After loosing the toss and coming to bat on day 1 of 1st test, New Zealand were once 60-6. But it was the partnership of Ryder and Vettori who both hit centuries took New Zealand to a respectable total of 279. In the first and last part of first day of match went to India while the 7th wicket partnership made second part belonging to the Kiwis.

Coming to bat first, NZ batsmen struggled against the Indian Seamers specially Ishant Sharma and Zaheer Khan. After playing some strokes in fist overs, Guptill got the victim of Zaheer Khan in 7th over who then took the wicket of Flynn 3 balls later. Taylor was then lucky to be put down by Sehwag. But McIntosh got out from Ishant who was brought in second spell by Dhoni. Taylor was then bowled superbly by Ishant taking off the stumps. Franklin was declared caught by Dhoni off Ishant though the replays showed his bat being brushed. McCullum then gave his wicket to Munaf making it 60-6.

New Zealand were completely struggling at that stage. But Vettori and Ryder gave a complete control to NZ inning. Vettori was first to get his century. He scored 118 off 164 balls before being out of Dhoni off Patel. Ryder too got his maiden test hundred in between a lot of drama with last man in opposite end. Finally NZ became all out on 279 from one stage when they seemed to be struggling to get to even 100.
India batted beautifully and got to 29 before end of day. Sehwag was smashing superb shorts. Wait for day 2 to have more action.
